All majors in the PhD program are available at a distance through synchronous interactive video as well as in the traditional classroom. Students who are unable to take advantage of the campus scholarly environment can participate fully in seminars and colloquia by joining the class sessions through live Internet connections.

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree prepares candidates for a vocation in theological instruction and Christian scholarly research and ministry.
Classes of 8-12 students follow a seminar format, where students present research and engage in dialogue. In this setting, students are led to sharpen critical thinking and research skills.
Schedules range from weekly sessions to weekend block formats for selected majors.
NOBTS's research community consists of about 30 professors and 150 students. Our faculty and students are active members of various professional societies.
The 61 hour program is comprised of three stages.

The minimum length of the program is 3.5 years. The maximum length is 7 years.
